Yellow the Colour of unity
History says Nizamuddin Auliya was a saint of the Chistiya silsila, one of four major Sufi orders in India. His follower, the Persian poet Amir Khusro first witnessed the festival to cheer Nizamuddin, who had been grieving over his nephew's death. Amir Khusro also considered being the originator of Hindustani classical music.
"The legend is when Nizamuddin's nephew Taqiuddin Nooh passed away, the saint did not smile for months. This disturbed Khusro, who kept looking for ways to make his teacher laugh. One day he saw some women, dressed in bright yellow clothes, singing from their core. They were observing the arrival of spring. So, he dressed in yellow garments and accompanied by the women, approached Nizamuddin, who smiled at his disciple's new likeness. Since then the festival observed every year till today at Dargah.
