An invitation card for Priyanka and Hiranmoy Mandal's wedding. Since the family don't have funds, they printed very few numbers of cards. Also to cut down more cost they pasted photocopies inside the card than color prints.

On the wedding day a letter arrived from the District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) office requesting Pushpa to visit their Kolkata office for the hearing of Arjun's compensation case on the Tiger attack. The compensation is pending more than year now. Pushpa being a single mother she is facing tremendous hardship because financial crunch.

The night before her marriage Priyanka instructs her friends over the phone about the direction to her village.

Pushpa Mondol is buying "Pola" from a local Jewellery shop. Shakha & Pola are a symbol of a married woman in Bengali culture. This custom is the most popular and accepted in rural areas mostly. She said "I never imagined, I had to do this by myself. Very unfortunate for me."

Rajat Jubilee is a remote village in Sunderban which comes under Gosaba block. The village has no direct road connectivity. Their transportation is entirely based on the river. For transportation of heavy material, they have to trust cargo boats which took 5 hrs to reach from the nearest town Gosaba. Here Rahul, Mithun and with the help of two locals, they are offloading an almirah they bought for Priyanka's marriage.

Rahul Mondol lost his father when he was 19. After the sudden loss, Rahul comes under tremendous pressure because of income related uncertainties. He works in villages as daily wage labour. He said “We are struggling at the moment but I am hopeful someday , I will turn things around.”

On her special day, Priyanka Mondol is going through pre-wedding rituals. It was a glorious sunlit afternoon.

Before Hiranmay leaves for the wedding venue, his family members surround him. Jhumpa, his visually challenged kin, stands next to him. Both of them are very attached.

As the Hiranmay's procession headed towards the venue, followed by folk artist Nityananda Sarkar and his band. Unlike urban weddings, the parade is a low key affair. Nityananda dressed up like a Naachni. Nachni is the remaining rump of the once dominant tawaif (nautch-girl) culture.

On the marriage evening, Pushpa Mondol carries food as an offering to his late husband Arjun Mondol's soul. It's a part of native practice practices.

Just after the rituals, the Pushpa Mondol fainted out of the shock. Pushpa is a chronic depression patient and suffers from PTSD. Even after a year, she was unable to accept the fact her husband had been killed by a tiger.

Bengali style wedding mostly is the ritual of “SUBHO DRISHTI”, where the bride covers her face with a betel leaf and then seven rounds are taken around the bridegroom before being face to face with him.

At the end of the wedding, someone throws glitters on the newly married couple.

Priyanka's grandmother cracks a joke with the groom Hironmoy. In the village areas, it is a practice elderlies from the girls' side flirts with the groom.

Pushpa Mondol breaks down in the kitchen as she knows Priyanka will leave soon. Pushpa said "Priyanka had the opportunity to go to college, but she did not. Since I did not do well after my husband's death, she did not leave my side. She was like a pillar to me, sacrificing her career. Now she is going forever, how am I to survive without her?"

Nityananda Sarkar is a rural artist with many talents. He performs multiple lost forms of traditional Bengali folk stuff such as Jhumur Songs, Ma-Bono Bibi dramas, Pala Gaan etc. He is also a farmer.

Rahul Mondol, son of late Arjun Mondol, could not hold up anymore. He breaks down on the shoulder of his sister and Hironmoy.
